Description
In his last interview, the journalist asked Hugo Chavez how he would describe our present. He says: "At the moment we have a dead person and a newly-born child. However, the dead person is still behaving as if he were alive, and the baby is not yet aware of being born". These are approximately the words with which I would describe the political situation in Macedonia thanks to the politicians who had a definite influence on the formation of the public awareness. Macedonia is a mature state but it seems that it has not yet acquired the awareness about its existence. And the political system that we buried two decades ago is still strolling around the institutions and you will see it in the political parties, in their organization, in the attitude of the politicians. All in all, they are making this chaos and this permanent crisis that breaks with a little stimulation, little help from outside. Normal operations like census, elections, EU reports, NATO summit, evaluation of an international NGO, and construction of monuments, re-organization of the net of educational institutions, a criminal charge, or a court trial--everything can grow into a new big crisis with the evaluation that "it has never been this bad". The specific characteristic of Macedonia is in the fact that everyone with an interest may make a crisis diagnosis with the idea of transferring it into a military conflict after which the state will be buried. Belgium is also in a real permanent crisis, Greece is always in a crisis, but the difference is that the centers of power there and the foreign services of the neighbors are not acting as saboteurs, they do not hire local executors of dirty acts and these states are not decaying.
